Rural Norfolk is a wonderful place to live and work, right up until you try to join a video call on a copper line that tops out at 6 Mbps. Full-fibre is arriving in towns, but for thousands of homes, farms and countryside businesses it is still years away. That gap is exactly why we install so much Starlink across the county.

How fast is Starlink, really?

In our experience across Norfolk, Starlink typically delivers 150 to 300+ Mbps download speeds, with more than enough upload for video calls, cloud backups and running a business. That is a transformation for a property that has struggled along on a few megabits. It works over satellite, so there is no phone line or fibre required, and it is available almost anywhere with a clear view of the sky.

Where Starlink makes the most sense

  • Homes and businesses beyond the reach of fast fixed-line broadband.
  • Farms and estates that need connectivity in barns, yards and outbuildings.
  • Holiday lets and cottages where guests now expect reliable WiFi.
  • Events and temporary sites that need internet fast, with no infrastructure.

What a professional installation involves

You can unbox a Starlink kit yourself, but the difference between a dish propped on a patio and a proper installation is reliability. When we install Starlink we:

  • Find the best mounting position for a clear, obstruction-free view of the sky.
  • Mount the dish securely to a wall, pole or roof and run the cabling neatly.
  • Weatherproof every entry point so nothing leaks or degrades.
  • Configure your router or connect it into a whole-property WiFi network so the signal reaches every room and building.

That last point matters. Starlink gets fast internet to your property; a proper network is what spreads it reliably through it.

Starlink, or wait for fibre?

If full-fibre has a confirmed installation date at your address in the next few months, it may be worth waiting. If it does not, or you simply cannot work with what you have now, Starlink is usually the quickest route to genuinely fast broadband. For some rural businesses the best answer is both: Starlink alongside business broadband or 4G/5G for resilience, so you are never offline.
